Partition help.
I have a 20Gig WD Hard Drive, currently with three partitions.
Par 1: 2Gig Active DOS containing my WinMe OS Files
Par 2: 1Gig, which I had intended to use for a swap file. But it seemed to work better on my next partition.
Par 3: 17Gig which I use for programs and everything else. Its my primary drive.
Since I ended up putting my Swap on Partition 3, #2 is not usefull for much else at 1gig, and I would like to increase the size of my First Partition containing my OS. Is it possible with Fdisk to delete Par2 without damaging the other partitions? Will they resize themselves to sompinsate for the removal of Par2? Or do I need Partition Magic for this?

Yes, you can delete par2 without affecting the other two. However this leaves you with a 1 gig void on your HD. Partition Magic will certainly allow you to manipulate your partitions in just about any way you can imagine, and unless you have a way to temporarily backup 17GB of data somewhere else, it's definitely recommended.

I had a feeling that would be the case. Didnt know how DOS could interpit what to do with the void the deletion of Par2 would create.
Thanx for the help.

Geezer
Make a backup of the first partition then delete both the first two, then use fdisk to collect partition 1+2 together and then put partition 1 back there and once you've done all that put the swap file back in partition 1 with your os!phew!

IMHO There is a simple reason that the Swap works faster on the Third Partition (I guess its Fat32 - Which the Cluster size is smaller).
For best performance reguarding Swap - Put it on other HDD that connected to other Controller (EG. IDE1).
Anyway, First thing BACKUP (as other mentioned), Second I advice you to Use Partition Magic (Though FDISK will do the Trick).
Good Luck
