faked durons and t-birds?

my supplier told me today that they were at an AMD seminar and they were told and shown that ANY duron or t-bird that has the L1 connectors connected is a phony. they said there is a big problem with thieives connecting certain connectors and remarking the chips. i never heard of this. i HAVE heard that early durons and t-birds were sold without a fixed multiplier and that AMD changed this, when people realized it and then people realized the only difference was the losed L1 connectors so they started closing them to unlock the chips. ????
