A customer came into my store last month. He was new to computers, according to him. He had purchased a 486 PC from the local flea market. The seller had written down what type of PC it was, along with what hardware was installed.
On the list was a CD Rom player. The purchaser had told me that it wasn't working, that the purpose of buying this system was to allow his daughter to use educational programs for her school work, and he had been told most software is comming out on "CD"s. So the player was the sale point to him.
Telling me he just bought an $80.00 software, for his daughter, and that it wouldnt access the CD, he told me he would bring it in within the hour to my shop.

As he sat his PC down on my workbench, I could not help but smile. See his first question as he backed away from the computer was how do you eject the CDs? My answer to him was "Usually from the button on the right side of its face". Confused he looked at me and asked what button? All he had was a lever that flipped up and down. I gently broke the news to him, he was right. That CD Players don't come with a lever, but 5 1/4" floppy disk drives do....
