I have a computer in that is a PII/350 on a Gigabyte GA-6BXC w/64MB RAM running 98SE.
Anyhow, The user likes to play all these "$24.95 Wal-Mart special hunting games" and brought it in because Big Game Hunter II won't install. It runs through the install, then automatically initiates DirectX 6 installation. As soon as DX6 starts, it blue screens, everytime to an Exception 0D called from VTDAPI. I've installed DirectX 8.0, tried a new video card, disabled internal and external cache, swapped out the RAM to no avail. The only thing running when I try the install is Explorer and Systray. Any ideas? I'm about ready to make some small game out of this POS !!!! ------------------ Why do convenience stores that are open 24/7 have locks on the doors? |

i've had a bunch of problems with these games, but not the problem you are describing.
is it an entertainment arts {EA} or wizardworks game? if so... they have some support on their site... but their server is usually slow as heck. [This message has been edited by pga (edited December 07, 2000).] |

I don't offer any support for games, I have better things to do with my time then waste it trying to get stupid games to work, had a client that wanted rogue spear to work on his machine, it would get into game about 5 mins then lock up, gave him two attempts and that was it...
I would try their website or maybe try the game on another machine and see what happens ------------------ What do you think this is ? The Holiday Inn...

but hey... why not fix the problem if the customer is going to pay...... they buy some dumb game for $24.99 and then pay us $40 to install it. ![]() [This message has been edited by pga (edited December 07, 2000).] |

You the man PGA...that did it!
You'd think I would of had enough sense to check the site for support....I swear I learn something new everyday, but I forget about 2 or 3 to make room!!! ctrlaltdel, like pga said, when the customer wants the program to work, and they are paying the hourly rate, we do it. Otherwise, they'll just go find another store thats not too proud to do software conflicts!....Now if they think there warranty is gonna cover..that's when I set them straight! Bit strange,we have one comp with exactly same MoBo (P3-500 CPU, though) and even exactly same game installed . All works without any problem.
But, anyway, I agree with all who said, what customers have to pay on hourly basis for our shooting (sorry, troubleshooting) time. |

Guess thats where I am lucky, because I take the gravy stuff and turn down the stuff I don't want to deal with, but I guess if they are willing to pay then so be it, but when they complain about the price or they using a 486-50 with 16 megs of 30 pin ram... well you guys know
