Windows95 sound problem using PAS16 card

The system sounds from Windows on a 486 machine, such as Exclamation, Start Windows etc. keep repeating and can only be switched off by accessing Sounds in Control Panel, selecting a sound then stopping it. The Media Vision Proaudio Spectrum 16 card (650-0044-56-G)works well otherwise. The Sound Blaster Emulation is set and there are no hardware conflicts, CD-ROM and audio all check out.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Yup. I've seen this not only on the PAS16 but on other sound cards where there was a conflict in either the DMA or IRQ settings. The system knows enough to find the card at the correct addresses, but then when it fires it up, another device on the same address goes "Huh?" and the sound gets stuck in a loop. Kind of a wierd sound, too, especially the exclamation (after a while it begins to sound like white noise, then you can almost swear you hear voices...but then, that happens all the time <g>)

    I agree with pcshark.
The problem sounds like an IRQ conflict.
Irq 7 is commonly used for the printer. I have seen soundcards that supprort 5 or 10 by default.
If card is PNP try this
go into bios and select resources controlled by auto, and yes to PNP OS installed.
    This should do the trick
