Post Laptop lock up on boot

please help!
I have a Toshiba Satellite 4030CDT which freezes on the red Toshiba logo ("In touch with tomorrow")

There is a theory from another tech at the site that it is because the hard disc is partitioned; c: = about 1 gb and the rest in d:.
Obviously the c: is meant to be a system partition, with all software being installed on d:, however I think that the user has installed all the software on c: and filled it up (not leaving enough space for the swap file. Would this cause what I'm seeing (the lock up?)

I think the problem is with the BIOS...
Does it bbep Correctly (One Beep)?

Also With most toshiba laptop there is "Starter" CD who can help identify your problem.
check this out first and then come back with result please...

Did you try the reset? Toshiba notebooks usually have a small hole on the back corner (I forget which side) that you can stick a paper clip into while the notebook is running, and it will reset the system.

It's worth a shot!

the last 2 times I saw this problem with toshiba notebooks, the system board had to be replaced to correct it. It can not be software since the notebook is not completing the post. If you boot the unit up without the hard drive in it, it should do the same thing, proving that it is a hardware problem.

Try taking the power lead and battery out & leave it for about half an hour.

thanks guys - we used the "pull the battery out and leave it for a while" route - and this seemed to work
