Running win98 over 95 AMD 333 cpu lots of ram.
errors are: whew!!!!!

Can anyone shed some light. Man oh man I have been working on this puter all day long. I have gone everywhere., but decided THIS WAS THE PLACE TO COME TO..........I almost had forgotten you guys were here. Please don't fail me.......help?

Melinda, can you give a little background? What programs were recently installed, what OS are you running, motherboard-cpu-memory info.

Meantime, try booting in safe mode, remove everything from the startup group in the start menu, rem any load= or run= lines in the win.ini, go to the registry HKLM-SOFTWARE-MICROSOFT-WINDOWS-CURRENTVERSION, check the programs listed under RUN and RUNONCE and remove any programs that might be causing problems.

Are you running Norton System Works 2000 by any chance?? The OE 0028-* extension pops up alot when System Works 2000 is loaded. If you are, uninstall it, and then remove ALL traces of Symantec from your registry. I just had to do this with a system. Hope this helps..

You said your computer had "lots of RAM". Could you elaborate a little bit? What kind of RAM and how much? I am thinking that maybe that might be the problem. I have run into similar problems where you keep getting fatal errors,GPF's and BSOD, 9 times out of 10 it is related to the RAM. I would try swapping it out, and see if your errors go away. Hope this helps!

There is one other thing you might look into. Its possible that your processor is overheating. Check to make sure that your cpu fan is working properly and that you have good contact between the heat sink and the cpu.

Check your harddrive too, what kind is it?
Seagate has a diag for their harddrives, as others do to, had a system that was acting funky registry blow ups, thought it memory and heat but it was the drive, installed another and all is fine"knock on wood"
it was our local law enforcement's machine
I didn't want any comebacks on that machine

What software do you use?
What do you mean "lots of RAM"? How much? What kind?

You said you were installing Win98 over 95 with an AMD 333 CPU. If the Win95 version is 'B' or 'C', try installing the AMD CPU patch first, you can find the patch on the Windrivers site. Then Install Win98 after. I just ran into something similar to this a few days ago. Also, memory is a good suggestion. You might have a faulty memory SIMM. Try swapping with new or known good memory to see if that fixes the problem.

thanks so much for all the help., just to let you all know., that the problem was DRYWALL DUST- CPU was terribly dirty. my office was newly remodeled and computer was not covered well.
