    Question Digital Audio

I'll be the first to admit that when it comes to hardware I don't know squat. So if this question seems stupid in any way please understand. Alright here's my question: Is that lilttle red and black wire that comes out of the power supply the digital audio cord for my CD-ROM. Because, I've always been plugging it into my CD-ROM and nothing ever really happens. But, recently I put together a new computer and I plugged in that wire as I always do. When I turned on my computer, the wire instantly caught fire and melted causing my computer to shut down. Nothing was damaged except for the wire. So, was I actually supposed to plug that in, and if so did I plug it in wrong and that's why it caught fire? Any advice on this would be very helpful. Thanks a lot.

That is not an audio cable, it is for power only.
You could get an audio cable, which has plug ins on both ends, which goes from CD-ROM to sound card. It should be a 4 Pin plug-in.
