    Post Bad Banshee Bad!

    Here's the setup:
-Generic 16 MB Banshee (8 months old)
    -K6-2 450
    -Aopen AX59 Pro mobo
    -64MB PC100
    -the usual other junk

The problem started recently. If on the net or tother application, the video just goes..black screen like in power save mode.

I have to hit reset and even then I have to hit it a few times, because the No Signal message on the monitor doesn't go away.

I've upgraded to DirextX 7 and the new Banshee drivers with no difference.

    Any ideas??

If you're getting a no signal indicator on the monitor the card is acting up. Those things can overheat. Have you measure d the temp?

It is hot. There is no fan on the chipset, just heatsink. I cannot leave my finger in the heatsink more than 1 second when it is in operation.

But it's been like that since I built it.

I had the same problem with mine until I added a fan to it. You should be able to go to any electronics store and find a fan to fit the banshee for a decent price. The other option is to find a j-fan, but this will take up either a pci or isa slot. I have my J-fan fan taking up my free pci slot, sitting right underneath the banshee. This fan pusher 32 cfm and has actually lowered the temp of the room it is in.

My Diamond Monster Fusion (Banshee chip) comes from Diamond with a fan. I guess Diamond did their homework and figgered out that those Banshees run pretty hot.

well, i own two banshee's, cheap and cost effective. i ended up putting an amd heat sink and fan on the one. took a little modifying, and used up a pci slot, but now, cool as a cucumber, and smooth as silk.
