Question Error reading .EXE-files with DMA enabled (Toshiba sd-c2202)

I can't run exe-files or movies from a cd-rom if I have dma enabled on my Toshiba DVD-ROM (sd-c2202). I get this error in win9x,and if I try, it tries to open the exe-file in a DOS box, but then it halts. If i try to run a movie from a cdr it says that it's not possible to render the stream, but if I turn of dma, it works (although it skips somewhat because dma is unused).
This must be some kind of software problem, since it works in NT/2000/XP. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
    Thanks in advance/Jimmy

You could try reinstalling the motherboard IDE drivers, perhaps updating to the latest version. If its a VIA based motherboard then downloading the latest 4-in-1 drivers from VIA's site may solve the problem. You could also try booting in safe mode and removing all/any CD/DVD devices from device manager and then reboot and let Windows reinstall them.
