[RESOLVED] a question for all you case modders

ok, this might not be a concern, but it was brought to my attention by a electronics tech with 20+ years exp. Will cutting a large hole in a case for a window, possibly cause RF or electrical interference in near by electronic components such as cordless phones, audio/video equipment, or cause the computer to pick up interference from the same types of items? Basically, if you added a window in your case, have you noticed anything of the like?

I don't have any degree or proof, but I wouldn't think it was cause anymore interference than the existing holes in a case, like the fans holes, exhaust and intake holes, etc. Besides which, many consumer electronics are supposed to comply with being able to accept and handle incoming EMF signals and the such....

I've never really seen this as a concern before. You, of course, already have many smaller holes in your case which would already affect this. I've had windows in my case for a long time and it hasn't caused any noticeable problems since they were made. Just my opinion but I'm not an expert

thanks for the input. I did a little "test" by removing the side panel from the case and operated many of my electronic goodies close to the machine without noticing anything odd other than fan noise. now my wife thinks Im odd since she was volunteered into the walkie talkie test... lol
2 cordless phones, walkie talkies, handheld scanner, cell phone, stereo, and guitar amp had no noticable affects on or from the machine...

I tend to run my case in 'totally disassembled' state (sides and front off, mobo tray sticking out the back), doesn't make any difference.

Thats true too...what about all the test benches with the puters that don't have sides at all....never heard complaints there...thanks for the test, it was a good question!

I think you need to worry about how much interference your computer gives off not how much other things give off that will effect the computer. Since your computer will give off more interference than almost everything around the computer. That’s why some monitors cannot have a computer next to it or it starts to turn purple.
