    Post K6-2 350 (100 Mhz) on 66 MHz bus

A client brought in a new system with a pcchips 571 board and a k6-2 350 processor. The system is set to run at 333, Windows problems big time. I am under the impression that you need a 100 mhz board to run a 100 mhz processor. The company that built it is another a different impression. Thoughts, facts?

    Thanks,

    Charlie

A 571 board absolutely positively cannot run a 350. Impossible. That company should close it's doors for it's own stupidity. To even think of trying that is ridiculous. I've worked with many of those boards. Most revisions of it do not even support the right voltage for the cpu, and those that do, when running an AMD k6-266 it has big time crashing problems.

e-mail me [email protected] if you want any back up on this one.

I used the amd patch for cpu's running at or over 350 Mhz to prevent Windows Protection errors at bootup. It is a one time patch, nothing to add to autoexec, etc... it's on AMD's website. I haven't had one WPE since.

    Cool

THIS WILL Work!!! THE BEST WAY IS TO SET THE 571 UP AT 83mhz FS BUS, 4.5X clock mul.(should still run with 2.2v, if it wants to act stupid, bump it up a little, but not past
2.5v). This gives you a 372mhz, one of the fastest cheep MB&processor combos that you can build, and it comes compleate with sound and video....WOW!!
I would also recommend that you install the AMD +350 patch, If you are using 95.
You need to use Good RAM With this combo.
Most of all You need A GOOD fan and heat sinc
on this(a little heat trans. compound would be a ++)
    Good luck!!
