Windows 98 Install problems on the Asus A7V
OK everyone,
I have a ASUS A7V (don't remember the revision number) with no on-board sound and a 1GHz Thunderbird. I was attempting a linux install and it fubar'd my windows partition. I have fdisk /mbr, fdisk'd the windows partition, and reformatted the drive three times and I still cannot get Windows 98 to install. I always get an error on suwin. The linux paritions are still there as well and I have moved my IBM 75GXp 45Gig ATA 100 drive from the ATA-100 controller to the ATA-66 controller and set it as the only device on that chain and disabled the ATA-100 bios for temporary purposes. Oh, I have the kenwood 72x true-x drive with the firmware update installed and have bios 1004D.

Just a thought. If you have a soundblaster digital card it can play havoc by interferring on IRQ 5. Since there are only PCI slots. I had a little trouble loading windows until I set the BIOS to IRQ 5 to legacy.
Also if you load any other drivers before the 4 in one driver you can sometimes have problems.
Finally, I had a truex cd I could never get to work in a K6 system.
Good luck.

this error usually is RAM, cache, or CPU related (in that order).
