Post Trac Point Drivers Freeze

I have a Thinkpad 1411 411 and have just bought ot without a operating system. When I
installed Windows ME the Trac Point sometimes works and sometimes with freeze after boot up. It seem when I take the battery out or hold the power down for 4 seconds this is the time it works. When I just turn on it usually does not work and I will have a ! in the device driver section.
Tried the latest 2.04 driver with no luck, still the imtermittant freeze up upon entering Windows ME. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I think I may have solved it, loaded Windows 95 first, then Windows ME on top of it.
Then it just uses the Microsoft PS2 driver but at least it works. Before, I did download the latest Track Point Driver and still experienced lock-ups on the Windows ME version clean install. If I get brave I may try the new driver in awhile.
