After installing win2k from my 98se system, the sound stopped working. Win2k can't seem to find a compatable driver for my computer. I need an ESS 1869 driver compatible with win2k pro. What is going on???

It's quite simple, Compaq do not support Win2K on these machines, and therefore no drivers are available from them, I checked the esstech.com website also and as yet they have not developed a driver.

You have the same sound card on board as the 1600 series, so look on the Compaq forum, there you will find links to the ess drivers that you need, and many others for modems, graphics, lan etc too. These were posted by users who upgraded to Me or win2K, as Compaq are a little idle in support for anything new!!
