I bought a few boxes of computer junk just for fun, and found a stack of 4.3GB laptop hard drives but they are password protected, They are IBM drives. Any ideas?

They are probably protected with some sort of software, possibly a Norton product. Most likely encrypted, so you'll never see the contents within your lifetime. Can you format them and reuse them?

You may need to perform a low level format of the HDDs as the password lock program may be stored somewhere in the master boot record.

IBM should have a diag utility that will write zeros to the drive erasing anything on them including the password
