Could really have done with the Model Type...

Compaq computers usually use F10 to enter the BIOS setup, look for a white block displayed on on of the corners of the screen during POST, press F10 when you see it appear.

However, on some models it's not this easy. Compaq used to use a hidden partition on the computer to store the BIOS setup program. If this partition is missing (the block will not be displayed) then you cannot change the BIOS settings.

There is good news though. The BIOS setup program can be downloaded from Compaq. This can then be run from floppies, or installed onto the computers harddrive. Look for "Computer Setup for portables". If no download is availible for your model, it probably doesn't need the setup partition.

All of this information applies only to some Compaq desktops/laptops, mostly the older ones.

Hope this helps...

How do I know all this? I spent a year refurbishing Compaq computers, got pretty familiar with their support web site...
