    Post another stumper!!

upgraded machine with Aopen cdrw 8x4x32.

everything detects fine. installed Adaptec cdcreator ver.4. Everything seems to work fine but when you try to read the cd on the same machine, it reads the cd as blank.

tried with regular cdrom drive and the machine locks up.

rebooted machine and same thing. re-installed cd creator after I uninstalled it and same thing.

Machine had an older cd rw (2x2x24) and it worked fine with that one. I am using cds that were shipped with the drive. I tried other Imation cd and same thing.

My question is, could it a problem with the ide controller driver and/or the drive itself. Or maybe a problem with mb and/or bios?

Mb is Pcchips 747 and has been working fine for about 2 yrs. onboard sound is disabled. I have a Maxtor 7200 rpm 15.0 gb drive.

    any ideas ?

    hey its me again!

here is the scoop guys. I downloaded the ide drivers for this Mobo an everything seems to work now. I noticed that the Hard drive is now using an actual maxtor driver under windows. It was using a generic driver before.

I forgot to mention that I was also getting random buffer underruns and updating the driver seemed to stop that.

    Thanks for your help guys.

Oh by the way, I did install the adaptec patches before I updated the Ide drivers.

    Thanks again!!
