[RESOLVED] Problems with Sidewinder Software
I have a Precision 2 and while the joystick was set-up properly when I plugged it into the USB, I can't get the Sidewinder software to install correctly because the install program crashes EVERYTIME as it says "Now copying profiles" and reaches 100%:
_ins550 (or something like that) caused an illegal operation in OLEAUT32.DLL and will be shut down
So I can't access the property sheets in the Gaming Options applet and thus can't do anything like test & calibrate the joystick, meaning that while I can still use the Joystick in a game (it does say it the status is OK) I can't use the Sidewinder software to the fullest extent.
When I try to access the Joystick properties, it gives me an error message that basically says "There is insufficient resources or missing components......please reinstall the software." So that puts me back at square one.
Anybody knows just what is going wrong with Installshield everytime and how to get around it?
Microsoft's support site was not the least bit helpful; I couldn't find any articles that remotely related to this problem.

Hit ctrl-alt-del to access task manager and use End Task to remove everything except Explorer and Systray. Then try running the install program.

Or install the program in safe mode then reboot
