System Restore

After playing with Windows M.E. for about a year, (beta tester) I have found a really disturbing hidden file in File Manager. The file is named RESTORE and it holds all that wonderful, restore files for the System Restore programs. They are kept in .CAB file format. My computer has 1.37 gig of unremovable files used for the restore system and 500 meg for archive. They are NOT DELETEABLE and just slow down your computer. If you make a lot ok changes to your harddrive, leave the program. But if you don't add a lot of programs, turn off the System restore by using the System information in your Accessories, then startup switch. Click off the System restore and reboot. Hope this helps.

You must to go to Control Panel, System,then into File System and troubleshooting and disable the System Restore. Then reboot your PC in MS-DOS mode with a boot disk and delete the folder _RESTORE.

You must to go into System properties then into File System and into Problem Resoluting and disable the System Restore. Then reboot your PC in MS-DOS mode with a boot disk and delete the folder _RESTORE.

nope, nope, nope. The file is a HIDDEN file, which by being a Internal component of windows, not DOS, it won't let you do it. The SYNTAX code to access the file hides it.

If you can't delete it, then try reducing the footprint it has on your machine. In Control Panel, open System, then select the performance tab, and click on File System.

Reduce the slider for System Restore disk space use to where you are comfortable.

While you are at it, remember to change the typical role of your computer to Network Server if you have 128mb of memory or more.

After you boot with a DOS boot disk:

Use attrib -h _restore to remove the hidden attribute from the directory, then you should be able to delete it while in DOS.

I did it last night c:\deltree _restore\temp\archives this got rid of over 2 gig of wasted files. thanx for the help
