Post Selecting IR port for Printing not working

    Hi All,

I am working on a Toshiba Sattelite 35DVD. Just purchased in the UK. The system is runing Win ME. I have an HPDeskjet 340 printer and a HP IR adapter for this specific machine. When I installed the printer drivers there was an option to select teh IR as a printer port so I did just that. However, prior to testing the printer I proceeded with the IR adapter instuctions and installed it's drivers. Well, it messed things up. I can no longer select the IR port as my printer port. I does not exist as a port option.

I have tried a lot of things. I uninstalled both the printer and the new IR drivers. Reinstalled just teh printer (The IR port and printer active teh whole time) driver with no luck. Reinstalled the laptops IR device. no luck. and a whole bunch of other stuff. The port is active because when I boot up windows there is data transfer between the two machines at least there is a lot of blinky green light action going on. I have even tried to add the designated port LPT3 to my print options, but it does not recognize it as a valid option. when I try the wireless link option, teh only option I have is file transfer. I can not even access the properties for this program to try and activate the port that way.

    The bios setup is this:
    Enabled
    [FIR]
    [2F8IRQ3]

The ports on both machines work. I could probably print to a file and then print to the machine, but this is a pain in ths ***.

When I change the Bios to
    Enabled
    [ASK-IR]
    [2F8IRQ3]

the ports do not recognize each other.

Can anyone help me with this?

    Cheers.....David

R u sure that 2F8 IRQ3 is not conflicting with a COM port? I had a similar problem connecting a mobile phone 2 a laptop, where the phone's IR installation software automatically assigned IRQ3 to the IR device. I had 2 manually change the IR device's interupt settings 2 make it work.

    Question

Hi again, I'll try that. On another forum, soemone mentioned that I need to activate a protocol in my registry to assign a virtul LPT port. Can anyone tell me how I can do such a thing?

    Cheers.......David
