From what I know, Alpha systems are based on RISC architecture. They are very powerful & often run with Linux, Unix & NT. For more info, do a web search on alpha & risc.

DEC built the Alpha, then they got bought up by Compaq. If I remember correctly, the DDR bus used by the Athlon was based heavily on the bus used by the Alpha.
Previous versions of NT had support for the Alpha, but Microsoft seems to have dropped that with 2000. ------------------ Captain Troy D. Pack Rat `akbar Press If you're furry and you know it, hug the mouse! |

The DEC Alpha processor is a 64-bit RISC processor buit to run UNIX and VMS. It is a very fast, efficient, stable processor with support for SMP, huge ammounts of RAM and many times the tps of the Intel boxes. MS Buit Windows NT 4.0 and the corrosponding BackOffice for it, however due to lack of interest they discontinued it with 2000. There is also a version of Linux designed with the Alpha in mind.
