Exclamation wininit.EXE infected

The other day Norton Antivirus 2000 warned me that the wininit.exe file had been infected with the W32.HLLW.Bymer virus and quaranitined it. Now every time i start up an MSdos box comes up saying you cannot start up this in windows. All the backgrounds in O.E and I.E are grey so are the writing fields. Should i put the wininit file back or some how replace it.

Here is info on this virus including removal instructions. Looks like this virus is one that is very common right about now.

I would recommend always having F-prot (it's a dos Antivirus)

you can get it from here

F-prot

extract the Zip to c:\f-prot

you can always boot from a floppy and get to dos - it's very good - cleans just asbout anything..

make sure you update it :

Signature Update

Extract this file to c:\f-prot

Macro Virus Definitions

copy this file to c:\f-prot

enjoy

I use f-prot too. and it is too good . It sure detects most of the modern viruses and guess what its free of cost.

Great tool for techs like us
