I want to setup lan with my friends comp who lives far from me. I want to play games with him and share data. and besides there might be be more than two comps. so I know that I will need TCP/IP and netBeui protocols setup on both computers, but when it comes to connecting, do I need just dial his landline number to get computers connected or is it done in different way? Could u be more specific.

    cheers

Although we might be able to provide you with answers, I sense that all this stuff is new to you (?) and feel that you might do well by reading up on the subject before attempting the connection. It will give you a better understanding and clearer picture of what needs to be done.
Here are some links that will put you on the right track: http://www.howstuffworks.com/home-network.htm http://www.com2000.com.hk/networking_basic.htm http://hdallen.home.mindspring.com/home.htm

Maybe have your friend bring his computer over to your house, and start off by setting up a network like that. It's a great way to learn... <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Well said! You're absolutely correct. There's nothing that I can add to this perfect reply except to give you another link to check out, when you get comfortable with the situation.
