    Question VPN thru twoway satellite

Now that we have two way sat internet access, has anyone tried VPN thru it? Does the time lag fubar it? Security issues? VPN in hardware versus software? Speed fast enough? Any questions not asked, feel free to answer. Thanks in advance.

According to what I know about VPN, the time lag shouldn't affect anything. As far as security goes, if VPN protects your connection across the internet with umpteen gillion places for someone to packet sniff, then it should do fine over a satellite as well. It really depends on which method you choose for data encryption, however. But there is nothing specifically about satellites that should affect the security aspect of it either way.

And as far as hardware or software goes, what I've seen for the most part, is that if there are alot of different hardware issues to deal with (i.e. lots of routers, switches, etc. to go through) then hardware is usually easier to set up. If the connection out is pretty simple, then software is pretty good as well. I've never worked personally with hardware VPN however, so maybe someone else can give you more authoritative info on that.
