[RESOLVED] Wireless Networks

Anyone had any experience with these new wireless networks. I got a client that needs 3 out building networked to the main server but all are over 700 feet away. Figured that this might be the solution but not sure where to start.

check out Cisco's page. They bought aironet last year. the hub/switch is generally the same thing. going from building to building, i think what you want is a parabolic antenna for each point to point connection. to do this you need point to point visability within .. i think 10 feet, depending on the type of antenna.. If your going to spend some money Cisco will hook you up with guys to design it for about $1000/day. Be aware that the 803.11 standard has some serious security flaws tho..

I generally hate Wireless LAN (they cost more/Slower and more Hard to troubleshoot).

I advice you to avoid it

But if you do decide to go for it
go after Breezcom products they are quite Cheap and Standarlized

Yeah... I was looking at the breezecom products, and they looked pretty good. Un fortunately the client is looking at 3-4000 dollars just to link one outbuilding. Anyone got suggetions on something else i can use other than wireless?? I gotta go 700+ feet!

If it is Between Buildings with Line-Of-Sight
Use a Simple IR or RADIO.
If it is within one Building FR/ATM are Expensive...
I once did it in a Very lazy way -
100BaseT
An STP Cable -> Simple-Hub (Acting as a Repeater/Amp) -> Cable

This Cost me way Cheaper than Purchasing/Installing an FR

Yeah....I was thinking of the cheap way too but the whole lenght is undergound and in conduits. I think I'm gonna go Fiber with a couple Fiber optic to Rj45 adapters at each end. Thanks for the help though
