Question error 254

when i boot up i get "The following error occured loading protocol numbewr 0
error 254 i use win98 and microsoft networking and a pentium 133

ok,
What kind of NIC are you using?
Are the correct drivers loaded?
Have you tried using another NIC?

I have seen the same problem on a Laptop using 98, the PCMCIA port was blown.....Damn Compaqs...

we are using aopen aon-325 we have tried diferant cards and we have the problem on two machines. i think it hapend when i put office 2000 on. when i use network niebourhood all i get is the flash light so it can not find the file. ihave taken out microsft networking and it boots up fine.when i reload networking i agian get the same problem. before loading office it would boot up fine but not find the other computer. also i did upgrade from win 95.

It's been my experience that upgrades tend to be bad ju ju. Sometimes they work other times they don't. You may have left remnents of an old 95 driver that is trying to work with Win2K. Also the drivers that you're using are they designed for Win2k? You may want to look at a Clean install. I hate doing them also but it's usually the safest way.
