Post Direct Cable from 2K to ME?

I am having troubles with doing a direct connect (parallel cable) from my 2K desktop to my ME laptop. I have read some things about the pins having to be in a certain configuration so I pulled out an old multitester and found out that all the pins were connected to their counterparts (1>1, 2>2, 3>3...24>24) Could that be a reason neither computer recognizes the other? If so, how do I find the right cable?

You need a laplink cable - avail at you major computer chain, radio shack and possibly your neighborhood retailer.

Is the laplink cable different from a male/male parallel cable? Does anyone know which software supports transfer over USB?

Yes. It is not straight through, it is crossed over. The outputs on one side connect to the inputs on the other. Like Cyberhh was saying, a regular male to male parallel cable will not do what you are wanting.
