Angry cdroms only show up in safe mode!!!!

When I boot up my system regulary cd roms are not recognized and there are exclamation point on the primary ide and secondary ide. In safe mode there is two of every setting under disk controllers. I am using a asus a7v266-c with xp 1800+ under the windows 98 os

In the past I have went into the registry and made backup of it. and then did a search for the primary ide and secondard IDE (how they apear in your device manager). and deleted any enter that it found in the registry. Also if you don't mind installing all of your drivers for everthing in you system you can just delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ENUM entry, this will do the trick also.

these are doing the same thing but if you do the search and delete the enters you will not have to redetect all of your devices.

funny since Win98 doesnt allow the use of CD-R's in safe mode - i think you have a conflict there...

    remove them and reboot,
look for yellow ballons and exclamation marks..

Try REM any references to cdrom drives in your autoexec.bat Make sure you are not loading real mode drivers.

Try setting both your cd and cdr to cable select, and they should so them selves out, I've come accross this problem before on a few machines, so this tip may work.
