Post old 486/win95 and Sony CD-Rom problems

    Greetings all-
I have a 486-66 with a Sony CDU55E Cd-rom drive in it. This PC was using Windows 3.1. I recently upgraded it to Win 95. It works fine except for the CD-Rom. Most of the time when I try to access it, I get either the blue screen of death that reads "Error reading CD-ROM" or a pop up window that reads "D:\ is not accessible. The device is not ready".

This happens all the time, on super-clean or even new CD's. Strange thing is, it works just fine in DOS mode.

This system has only one IDE channel, both the hard drive(master) and the CD-ROM(slave) are on it.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Al

I know that most Win95 drivers for CD-ROM drives use DOS drivers that load before Win95 loads (via CONFIG.SYS), which is your case. Try using another "Sony CDU55E" DOS driver. You can download the driver from here, here, or here (search for "CDU55E")...
