[RESOLVED] I/O errors with CRW8424E

Below is an email I recently sent the yamaha support section, please read it and tell me what you think the problem could be. Some new info is that my DVD ROM (set on 2ndary master) gave me an I/O error whilst ripping mp3s at 160kb/s the other day. First time its ever failed me. I've taken the writer to the shops and is being tested as I write if it turns out to be good, what could be the problem and how can I troubleshoot it my self.

I have had the above mentioned CDRW for 6months using the adaptec easy cd
creator 4.01 (202) . It had not failed me until recently when the cd
writing process would reach 99% then the cd would eject, reinsert itself and
finish writing the remaining 1%. The final result was ok. This happened
many times and then stopped occuring. I also had the writing process reach
99% and fail with a buffer underun error but the cd would also turn out fine
(or lose the last track).

Finally the writer has failed on me completly it will write the TOC table
then write 3% and freeze at this point, where upon windows crashes and need
a reboot. Other times I am given the following error message:

T0100: I/O error (04/09/00) - CD-Recorder error - track following error
T7127: TrackWriter error - Flush failed
T7118: TrackWriter error - Command retry failed

I looked this up on the adaptec error msgs web page and got the following
info.:

Error Code: T0100Z
Error Text: TrackWriter error
Causes & Solutions: Unknown error; contact technical support

Now every cd fails writing I have tried using Nero Burning ROM 5.0 but it
also fails.

This is why I am emailing you. I will be taking the drive to my retailer
as it is under guarantee. Is there any help you can offer on how to fix
this.

I have the drive set as secondary slave (and it worked well for 6 months) secondary master being my Pioneer DVD/ROM 104S.
My CPU is a P3 500, 64MB RAM, BrilliantXS Motherboard. Memory has been tested
and is fine, IDE cables have been changed and are also ok.

Here's what I'd try - Uninstalling & re-installing Easy CD Creator. Get the latest patch (I believe it's 4.03) from the Adaptec web site. Or, Adaptec just came out with version 5 - you may want to upgrade.

My CD burner also ejects the disk and then reloads it to finish writing.

Easy CD Creator doesn't like any other burning software, so you may want to delete Nero.

4.0 worked fine for 6 months dont know why it should all of a sudden feel a need for a new version. I don't think software is the problem here.

I don't understand? Do easy cd creator and nero drivers or files conflict with each other?

Are there any usenet groups or other web forums I can get help from. What else could cause I/O errors if its not the writer itslef that is bad?

From what I understand, yes, the files are changed - at least that's what Adaptec says. They could just be saying that so you don't want to use a different product.

And, it's also possible that your burner is bad. Have you tried a different brand of blank CD-Rs?? Perhaps you got a bad batch (I'm reaching here)
