Post xp freezes on suspend

its so odd, i can shut down my computer fine, but if i try to suspend it, or hibernate it just stops responding, and on occasion it does this on restart too. anyone got any ideas? i've got an asus a7v266a mobo w/ an athalonxp 1800, i'm thinking about formating and trying it again w/o the via 4-in-1 drivers.
