    Post winxp upgrade shutdown problems

This is similiar to another post but not quite the same problem. I have an HP Pavilion 8860 that has been upgraded from WinMe to WinXP. The computer will not shutdown. It instantly restarts instead of shutting off. Also anyone know how to get into Cmos? I've tried all the normal things.... f2,f10,del,ctrl-alt-s,etc....

    AMD Athlon 1gz.
    512Mb Ram
    60GB hd
    Nvidia Vanta
    On board sound
    PCI v90 modem
    CDRW
    DVD

Origanlly came with winME now has WinXP. Is there an update for XP that maybe missing? I haven't dealt with XP to much up here yet as it's not all that popular yet.

Thanks Mac I'll try that. Isn't XP suppose to shutdown like other windows?

Here is the main support page for your Pavillion: <a href="http://www.hp.com/cposupport/prodhome/hppavillio28316.html" target="_blank">http://www.hp.com/cposupport/prodhome/hppavillio28316.html</a> - You'll be able to find out how to access the BIOS there, as well there is a special section on WinXP and how it relates to this computer. I'd read that and see if there are any issues you need to be aware of.

Also check out this link: <a href="http://www.hp.com/cposupport/personal_computing/support_doc/bph05522.html" target="_blank">http://www.hp.com/cposupport/personal_computing/support_doc/bph05522.html</a>

Hope you get some help from some of that.

You say you have a CDRW. Are you using Roxio Easy CD Creator? I've seen this cause the restart problem. Resolution is to goto roxio's site and update driver for XP.

    Here's a MSKB on it:

    Good Luck!

Thanks Wyckyd we did have EZCD creator on there (other tech put it on. ) we don't have 5.0 or later which is the only one that can be upgraded to work with xp. We switched to Nero and followed the links provided by Mac and now everything works fine. Thanks guys!!
