Hi.
I've just upgraded my Win2K system to WinXP. My hard drive was left as FAT32 and now I want to convert it to NTFS but without formatting. What are the correct parameters in order for the "convert" command to do that? Many thanks. Phoebus |

type the folowing at the dos prompt,
Convert volume /fs:ntfs Remember, this is only one way, you can't convert back to fat32. Also never forget to defrag and chkdsk before you do this.

Thanks for replying. I just want to make sure that if I use these parameters my hard drive WILL NOT be formated.
Thanks again! Phoebus |

If you use the paramaters has giving it will NOT format the hard disk. However, like any other time when you make changes to the file system, back everything up, there is always a chance it will toast your partition.(though unlikely)
Just note that the process does require a reboot and the conversion takes place during boot up. Don't reboot/power off while it's taking place.. just let it go through.
