    Post Fatal error installing XP

    I just setup a RAID 0 array and when I installed win xp I pressed F6 and it asked for the RAID disk and installed the drivers, but after it reboots and goes to the "Installing Windows" step, I get this error:

    [Fatal Error]
    An error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing.

    One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

    The parameter is incorrect.

    Press OK to view the Setup log file.

    Log file:
    Error:
    Installation failed: D:\I386\asms. Error Message: The parameter is incorrect.

    Please help me fix this problem, also, could it be because I am not using the same Win XP CD (I never tried this CD before).

    often caused by an invalid"burned copy of xp" if valid purchased xp pro your system is not able to read from the drive and is skipping files during install latest bios update essential and slow down the throughput speed of the cdrom i e from udma to pio etc.

    Tell us a little more about what your setup is, what RAID controller you are using, and how the drives are configured. Correct me if I am wrong, but a system/boot drive can only be mirrored (RAID 1). Are you trying to install to RAID 0, or is this an additional volume?

    I hate to reply to this, because I have never dealt with the problem you are describing personally. I do remember others posting here with this problem, or something similar. I recall their solution was to install Win2k, (or in your case XP) to the drive on a standard IDE channel, and not one of the RAID channels. Then to edit the boot.ini, then switch the HDD to one of the RAID channels. But I don't recall at what stage of the setup the switch was made, or if the OS was fully installed before the switch.

    Maybe this will refresh someone's memory...

    On IDE RAID the boot/system drive can be striped.
