    Angry Cannot delete folder

Here's the story, I shutdown the computer, and as soon as I almost get back into Windows XP home edition I get a blue screen error related to a registry file. I call Microsoft and I ended up doing a clean install over my existing copy of Windows XP. The tech guy I talked to on the phone told me to put the new install of XP in a folder on my drive called WINXP. I followed his instructions, and I finally got XP back up and running. Today I tried to remove the old install of XP and I was unable to because of read only protection on the Windows folder. The read only protection cannot be removed. My question is how can I remove the old copy of XP from my hard drive?

    Any help is appreciated,

    Mike

Try to delete the contents of the folder, say a subdirectory at a time and see how far you get. I dont belive you will be able to carry this out in windows. If your drive is not NTFS boot up with a floppy disk and delete the folder that way. Is it possible the folder contains items that are still needed, say for other applications such as office?

ok well heres an idea if ya don't mind reloading XP again. Create an additional partition, load fresh install into the new partition, migrate needed data then simply format old partition in Disk manager.

Of course if its a fat32 partition, I agree with Digitizer. Get a boot disk and zap it from DOS

I thought someone had already suggested this, but I guess not. Why not just boot from the XP CD, run the recovery console, and when you get to the prompt, navigate to your rouge directory and delete the whole thing from there? I have done this before for other reasons without a problem…
