WinXP and Via4in1?
Do I need to install the newest Via4in133v with WinXP or is the 4in1 thing gonna be dead with XP? I haven't had any problems yet by not installing the 4in1 but was wondering.

All the versions of the 4 in 1s I've tested on any VIA chipset mainboard have actually degraded performance in XP. I don't think the 4 in 1 is going to be a "dead issue" with XP, but it's just going to be a matter of waiting for VIA to release a 4 in 1 set optimized specificly for the OS.
All that aside, the default VIA drivers included with XP have worked great for me.

the IDE driver included in the 4-in-1 4.33v currently degrades disk activity to a slower pace. When XP is fully launched new 4-in-1 drivers will be available.

The inf for the chipset(one of the four) is the key item, my current copy of xp seems to know what all the various chipsets are not just VIA but SIS as well. As long as all the system devices are recognised correctly then you don't need the patch.
As for the performance of the 4.33 IDE driver, this depends whether you have a 66 or 100 ATA controller.

If you are talking about the 686B Southbridge (ATA100) then installing the VIA drivers will slow down the transfers (happens on every system that has had them installed and I have had clients call me asking why their 'big brand' system has slowed down after installing these drivers). Wait until XP is actually released to Retail and then VIA will make new drivers for XP. The XP defaults are more than fine. If you are on about the ATA100 seperate controller (if your board has one) then you don't need to worry about teh VIA drivers neither as these are controlled by either Highpoint or Promise, depending on chipset used to control them.
