    Question database creation - a toughie

    Ok, I've been tearing my hair out over this one. Then again, I can't program my way out of a wet paper bag.

    Using access, I need to develop a database that will track inventory,purchase orders and work orders. When filling out a workorder, the entries have to deduct from the total inventory on hand.

    Do the orders have to be setup in excel? how would one go about this? Is there a website that can point me in the right direction? Or am I better off investing in specialty sw?

    This is for a small business, so I'd rather not shell out the big bucks for it.

    Any help would be appreciated

    You can do all this in Access, but you'll need to understand the components >Tables, Forms, Queries, and possibly some coding (Vis basic)

    An idea - why don't you use one of the built-in databases (Under new database), or look at the Northwind database sample, amending that if you want.

    Plus - there are stacks of databases on the net you can download. Can't guarantee they all work, and beware of viruses, especially in Macros and VB scripts.

    You have a long road and a very daunting, frustrating task ahead of you.

    I get the impression that you're probably somewhat of a novice at Acess and/or Excel. If I'm correct, you're going to have to ramp yourself up to at least an intermediate user level in one, or both, of these apps.before taking on this project.

    Based on the tone of your post, I'd recommend a canned package.

    Do a serach for Access database too, you'll get a load of resources (depending on the engine
