    Post vid card

I looked for a matrox card in a local store for a month and found nothing and really just didn't want an ATI (I dunno why - I just don't) so I went out and just bought whatever I could get. Let me know if I really got the wrong thing or if it's just going to suck with video editing.

    I got a hercules kyro 3d prophet 4500 (64mb 175mhz clock speed).

I was getting a new hard drive (80gb 7200 ata133 with a controller card!) and my impulse shopping got the best of me.

    The box is pretty!

The Kyro chipset is a really nice chipset, I haven't tried using it for vid capture, but it's great for gaming. I've seen many great reviews.

there is a review and some benchmarks for it done by anandtech

People don't reall talk about the Kyro when it come to video editing and I wonder why.
I guess we will have to wait and see.

    Question

Cool, I can only imagine that it'll be alright. As long as I didn't get the exact wrong thing.

Even the SIS-315 is performing good with Video editing (only with one monitor).
So I guess it can't be that bad.

We'll know tomorrow after I put it in - barring problems setting up my new HDD and reinstalling 2000. Major overhaul of system. Wish me luck.

Well, it's not tomorrow but I did finally get the card installed. 2000 kept telling me that the drivers supplied were not compatable with the card but I forced them in (so to speak) and it's working quite well now. I will be putting Premiere on tonight and may be playing with it. I let you know if it craps out or flies. Any recomendations for testing things for compatability?

For the real tests you will want a editing card with hardware overlay.
    Then test if it work.

What you need to do, it any case is :
while playing somthing from the time line in premier to press the PrnintScreen to make a screen capture.
    Then past it in paint.
the movie area is supposed to be blue and without a picture.

Well, it didn't work out. It rebooted my system when editing and in games. Couldn't diagnose the issue before the return date came up so back it went.

[whine]It's a shame - I'd really like to have a kick *** card but no one carries anything that I want near me and I hate ordering off line. My present ATI Rage Fury is alright but I just want more. Oh well. Whaaaaaaa.[/whine]
