[RESOLVED] Installing HD newbie here

I have a "generic IDE HD 8GB" I am buying a 500Gb in a day.
The computer I have is a Compaq Presario 5441. I have tryed researching, but dont work. So maybe knows if there is anything "special" i have to get, or if anything will do. And if the mobo will accept it.
Also one additonal, can a person have 2 HD's? Example...50GB is drive C, and 8GB drive D, and when treat Drive D like a basic folder(an 8GB folder) Can that work? Thoughts would be appreciated...

I'm sorry but I can't tell you for sure whether the machine supports it or not.

To answer your second question, yes. You can have as many HDDs as your machine supports (4 units is the maximum for IDE channels).
You can install the Operating System and the programs you use on the primary one and you can backup or store your documents on the secondary one. So you won't have any problem if you need to format and reinstall the Operating System.

The HD i have now is 8GB.
So lets say i buy a new HD(50GB) and i plug it in, and install, so on.
Will my 8GB HD be like an 8GB accesible folder?
Example, 50GB=C:\,
8GB=D:\

And I can just drag and drop files into D:\

Is that poss?

Of course. It's like the floppy drive. It's a separate unit where you can drag 'n' drop files. It's absolutely the same!

yay! someone who gives a fast, and easy to understand answer. One last, do i need an OS on it?
if notm, then i can just delete C:\WINDOWS since i wont be needing it since the primary will have the OS

you dont need the os on the secondary drive...BTW I have I have 8 drives in my system.... But I have a Promise ultra ATA 100 controller card to give me 4 more IDE channels...

The OS has to be installed on the primary drive (C . You don't need to install it on the secondary one too. You can install programs on both, though.

Since you took everything apart, just an advice for the 5 screws which left.

Verify that your motherboard is mounted on the case using all the screws. Probably the screws which left, belong there!

there are two screws mounted on the left and right of the 8GB HD, and floppy. On the right of the HD, and floppy, they go there. (Id have to take everything out agani, to put them back. And the other screw...who knows? (I didnt take the mobo out)<----HELL NO
