Post Q3 -Keyboard Layout

What configuration does everyone use? I use the default mainly, with the execption of a couple of weapons I move around.

What about this:<a href="http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Product_Id= 107727" target="_blank">Nostromo n50 SpeedPad </a>

Anyone using one of these, and if so how do you like it?

That looks like a piece of donkey shiite

We at the Taz and Morticia abode use an ergonomic keyboard with that as the mouse. Also using the ASDF key layout with other weapons bound to surrounding keys.

I prefer the following, at least for Excessive:

W - forward
S - backward
A - slide left
D - Slide right

Miscellaneous weapon choices are assigned to the surrounding keys and I use a MS optical Intellimouse to move my carcass around.

I can't believe you guys - Taz and Mort - are using a trackball That takes some skills to master, IMO.

BTW, Poseidon, I'm ready to try the Nostromo or the Razer Boomslang mice in the future.

I've got to get an edge somewhere

Presently I am using a Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro and an Optical Mouse as well.

Thanks for the input on the Belkin.

How about Microsoft's version:

<a href="http://www.microsoft.com/catalog/display.asp?subid=22&site=10516&x=42&y=15" target="_blank">Strategic Commander</a>

The reason I am asking is lately my left hand /fingers are starting to cramp while playing Q3.

1) WADS config is some suck a$$ pain in the arse stuff that I tried once.... and moved on

2) Mice suck. I always have to pick the mouse back up, move it back, and then pick it back up again later. AInt no mouse gonna be in my house!

3) The "BoomSkank"... I heard a few bad things about the Boomslang from a HARDCORE Q3 RA3 gamer who was dang good... but then again he liked the job that we were at and it sucked major buttocks...

I tried the Boomslang at Best Buy ("oh here is a pretty mouse, I can touch the pretty mouse... that is enough to convince me to buy the $100 pretty mouse") and I wasnt overly impressed.
The original Microsoft optical trackball I bought us was the one you can find at Ebay if you put "Microsoft optical trackball" in for the search... it was ok to touch but the game play SUCKED!!!

Think about the trackball we are using..... look who beats up on who....

I think I'll give your KB setup a try, to see if I can get used to it. I can see the advantage of having 2 different fingers on forward/backward keys.

As for my own mouse, I set it up so that moving it about 1.5" scans the entire screen lengthwise. I never have to pick it up to keep moving.

Who else has inverted their mouse to correspond to a "plane-like" controller?
Pulling = look up
Pushing = look down

I tried it like that in the early days, but changed. For me its much easier, just like clicking on icons...
As far as key config or using a device, I have tried quit a few different devices out there and for me nothing can replace a keyboard and mouse for FPS. I use the WADS as well.

TAZ--If you have to keep picking up the mouse and repositioning it, you need to set your sensitivity higher, but, if you have gotten use to using a trackball, more power to you. Its just not for me

I tried that too, but it didn't work. I was focusing on the crosshair so much it was like a mouse pointer, so having the mouse configured opposite was too confusing.

One of my co-workers swears by using a track-ball for Q3 style games...I myself could not get used to one. My set-up is as follows:

W = Forward
S = Back (I use the mouse and W&S to move side to side, not easy using A&D to move side to side)
MS Intellimouse Explorer mouse with the wheel set up to scroll thru the weapons. Space bar to jump, C to crouch. Thats it.
