    Best Scsi controller

I have a Side 2930 Ultra-scsi pci controller (Iwill), with a Plextor 32x (id2) and a Yamaha 4260 (id3). My plextor works very well, but it takes 3-4 seconds before starting to read a cd. Is it normal? In the bios of the controller, I must disable ultra-scsi feature?
Side 2930 is a good controller for cd-rom? Has it any probs or incompatibilities?
Here, in Italy, Adaptec controllers price is twice the price of Diamond's and Iwill's.
There are so difference in performance?

yes this is normal for Plextor drives.

My boss has two in his system running on an Adaptec 2940UW card and his do the same.

The Adaptec range of SCSI cards seem to be the most reliable.
