Audigy Installation Problems

I have a Windows ME machine, 512 RAM, Athlon 1600, VIA mobo, etc etc. I purchased a SB audigy xgamer card to replace my SB Live card. I uninstalled all SB live drivers and programs. I then installed the audigy board, and loaded the drivers per the directions. I reboot, all is well. I shut my PC down and come back later. The PC booted up in a VGA mode and when I went to Device manager, the only devices listed were my Network devices! Thats it. I reboot and it seems to be ok, but the audigy card is not working and is not present in Device Manager. I proceed to reboot and the system fails to boot period, won't even post. I started pulling card, reseating cards and memory and finally got it to boot again. It found the audigy card again, I reinstalled all drivers and rebooted once again. Now I get numerous registry errors and windows wants to restart to repair. I go through this same process of installing and uninstalling the card and I get this same registry problem. I also went and got the latest drivers from Creative and still no go. I finally gave up and put my SB live card back in and I have been problem free since. Any ideas or what can I try next?

When you remove the 'old' s/c & reboot, try entering bios & look for the entry which resets the DMI data(its usually on the plug & pray page). If you can try a different PCI slot too. Sounds like something in your machine is confus-ed & you know how many problems that can create.....

Do you have the gameport/midi adapter attached? If so remove it and give it another try. With the adapter attached there is to much "Noise" comeing off the cable. Although this does not effect Intel based system it does however effect AMD based systems. Just disconnect it and see how things go. If that doesn't work there are other things you can try, but give the first one a try. Also.... look on your CD for a program called CTZAP.exe its the best utility to remove creative products.

It comes on the Audigy CD. Pre Audigy the utility was not released to the public. It was kept as a developers tool, but with all the problems with the standard windows uninstall routine... ctzap was needed for the public. Anyone with an Audigy CD should have CTZAP. IMHO its the only reliable utility to remove creative products other than wipeing out your system and reinstalling fresh. Im sure most of the people here will agree that reinstalling your OS is a boreing teadeus task and if software developers would write thier drivers/programs correctly... we wouldn't have to go through this problem.
