    Internet Explorer

Bit of a strange problem, Internet Explorer seems to be playing up! Whenever I right click on a link and select "Open In a New Window" Internet Explorer opens a new window but the main part of it is transparent and nothing else. If I click on Stop and then Refresh the web page opens ok.
I have tried reloading Internet Explorer but this doens't seem to help.

There's a new method in windows xp for transparent objects, so windows, toolbars etc...

Win amp uses it other stuff too, perhaps something isn't using it properly....

    Do you have SP1 loaded?

Try turning down the hardware acceleration for your video card one notch.

I've got SP1 loaded and all of the available Windows Updates, I tried turning down the Hardware Acceleration but this has had no effect?

the file that is causing this is mshtml.dll
it is the same version of file in winxp and win2ksp3
the newest cummulative update to ie6 updates this file

i had to reload my xp when it happened. i couldn't extract a good copy that worked.

if you rename the file in safe mode, you can boot windows normally, but it don't run right at all....

If you let it resolve, does it ever come up with a message? Like web page not found, bad HTTP syntax ... anything ....?

I say this as my machine exibits exactly the same symptoms occasionally except I usually open another window and let both resolve .... my problems stem from my setup (cable) it doesn't always manage to send the entire request, I guess it gets 'clipped' somewhere's & usually when I re-send it works... which sounds almost exactly what D@ve is doing ....?

Don't be fooled by the contents of the window being transparrent, like I said earlier this is a new method in XP, I think the default setting is for IE windows is to be transparrent so it'd stay that way until the page resolved one way or another....

The page never resolves or displays an error message, we have 10 other workstations all hanging of the same DSL connection and they all seem to be fine?!?!?!?
the file that is causing this is mshtml.dll
if this file is corrupted then how can I restore it from my original XP CD? What's happened to SFC?

Start, help and support, type in sfc in search
Click the System File Checker link that appears

This is what mshtml.dl does, & why it can be a security issue

    If D@ve has
got SP1 loaded and all of the available Windows Updates
Then he's got the latest version anyways, I think its in the IE update and SP1, but you can re-extract it again if you like, it gives you a chance to find out how to use SFC correctly anyways

    Lightbulb TRANSPARENT

I had exacyly the same problem with my Windows each time i clicked a link i had a blank white or transparent widow appear with" internet explorer "heading only iam fairly new to this lark but i did a system restore, got rid of some unused programs then downloaded a fresh explorer from the MS website, this solved the problem. I know its a bit vague but it proves it can be sorted by a bit of tinkering! Good luk
