Sony HandyCam Drivers
I am trying to download video from my Sony DCR-TRV17 to my pc running Windows 2000. I have tried USB, and Firewire using the i-Link connection on the camera. With USB, it detects the memory card but nothing else. I have lost the software that came with the camera. Sony has been less then helpfull with this. Is there anyone out there that has the driver disk or knows where I can download it?

Did you not get any capture software with your firewire card? Your Sony dv just came with mgi video (which you can hunt for free in a few mags they were always giving it away!)
Here is a good tutorial for version 4

Flabooble!
Couple of things you could do. Go back to Sony and call tech support and explain your loss and maybe they can sell you a new copy of the software. Do not do e-mail support -call and wait on hold for a human. It is very difficult to get through after the holidays and e-mail is a nightmare.

Click on the phone link and then call the ascessories place and see if they sell the software you are looking for or call their helpdesk.
Buy the same camera at a store with a decent return policy and make a copy of the CD's that came with it and return the product for a refund. I'm not sure if that is ethical but it could be done.
You may also use Adobe Premier to pull video from your video camera to your computer over your firewire connection instead of using the crappy mgi videowave program the camera came with. Many other editing programs will do the same as well - Ulead does it I think. You don't have to have the software it came with to pull video off. I don't even install the crap software my sony cameras came with, it's garbage.
