I was typing away on my work PC, when suddenly a strange looking grey box (not like a standard Windows dialog at all) pops up on my screen. I didn't pay much attention to what it said, but it mentioned something about "the software you requested has finished downloading and is ready to be installed." Huh? I didn't download anything. And there is only one button to choose. Oh well, might as well press it. Well that was a mistake. Once I did that, a whole crapload of software was installed, but I didn't notice until I found some extra icons in my system tray. Gator, DateManager, Gain, and what seemed to be the root of it all, Xupiter. My homepage was also hijacked and changed to xupiter.com. I had never heard of xupiter until today, and apparently it is quite a nasty piece of work. It caused my browser to lock up repeatedly, and I hope to type this message in it's entirety now that all the crap has been removed.

Spybot search and destroy will get rid of Xupiter and it's kin:

Spyware Blaster will prevent such spyware from being installed in the first place:

And those of you with Lavasoft's AdAware on the brain, it hasn't been updated in months and probably isn't going to clean up this mess!

Just a word to all my pals here at WinDrivers.
