Yahoo File Transfer Issues
Ok I use Yahoo Instant Messenger quite a bit. All of a sudden I noticed I am unable to transfer files from within Messenger. Others can send files to me just fine. When I send a file, the user on the other end may get a message that I may be behind a firewall. I recently put a Netgear MR314 wireless router and now use it for my desktop and laptop to share my DSL. The Mr314 firewall capabilities are minimal if any I thought. So at first I thought the problem may have lied there. Last night however the first time I tried to transfer a file within Yahoo Messenger, it went perfectly. Now every time since he bombs.
Here is my troubleshooting steps:
I started and instance of Messenger on my laptop and desktop with different accounts. It transferred a file perfectly.
I tried to send a file from my desktop with DSL to another laptop using Netzero and it failed to go through.
Hooked my laptop on my company LAN and sent a file just fine.
Now I am stumped and not sure what else to do. I have contacted Yahoo but have not gotten a response as of yet.
Any other ideas? I think it almost has to be yahoo. But others can send to me no problem at all.
thanks

So just to clarify, it is only the desktop that is using the dsl router that causes the file not to transfer?
What os is on the desktop?

No both machines, laptop and desktop are affected and are connected to the same wireless router. Os on desktop is Win ME, OS on laptop is Win 2000. I can do a yahoo file transfer between the two, but if I try to send to anyone else it dies.

There should be a setup for the router which allows you to open ports. Routers should, by definition close ports until someone wants them to be open.
Have a little read here, it refers to your documentation
