    No Network Log-On Box

I have a user that uses Windows 95 and one day the Network Log-on Box disappeared. I got it back by reinstall "Clients for Microsoft Network". And this seemed to have done the trick. Except this morning the Network Log-On box is no longer there again.

What could be up? I'm going to reinstall TCP/IP and see if that helps!

    Any ideas?

    You might also want try:
    1. reinstall winsock2
    2. check the NIC or physical connection

Easiest way is to uninstall dialup networking from add/remove, windows components in safemode.

There is also a winsock update for windows 95
    available here

Problem has returned....I've tried everything mentioned here. Any ideas outside of doing a fresh install?

Nothing really. The only thing I saw was Gator and some other spyware which I removed with AdAware. Outside of that...the software is your basic office apps. Nothing major.

    Virus???

System is compromised by unknown intruder???

Things usually shouldn't just disappear or reoccur the next day.

Is this win95 system running all day and night or is it shutdown at night???

Does the network server automatically reimage the hd's on networked computers on a daily basis??

I know it is done at the college I go to. The instructors tell us to save any info on our assigned network drives or through email or a floppy disk, because any info saved on the hd directly will be gone the next day. All the networked systems get an automatic reimaging of the hds overnight.

It possibly could be a virus. Seems the virus definitions on these machines are super old. I'll go to one of those online virus scan sites and check it out there.
