windows socket error on api bind

After starting up my pc the message socket error on API bind showed up. I don't know how to handle this problem. Please help

If you type the error message into a Google search you get all sorts of hits on this, most of them referencing a trojan.

So it looks like you may have a trojan. Go to Start menu | run and type msconfig, then look for an instance of shellapi.exe set to load at startup. If it is there, remove it.

You also need to get a decent virus scanner. What AV are you using? You can do online scans at Trend Micro site. There is also free AVG from Grisoft

There are also some good, free torjan scanners out there, do a search on the forums, NooNoo is always posting the links and I keep forgetting to take a note of them.

You going to come to the rescue and post the link NooNoo? Please.

Anti Trojan.net have both an online scan and a downloadable trial. It can scare you to bits, because the first thing it does is find the open ports on your machine and then list the trojans that use the ports. It does not mean you have got them, merely that you are open to attack from them... the next stage actually hunts for the trojan software and tells you when it finds it and is up to you to whether you allow anti trojan to delete it or not.
