Matsonic MS9337C mobo sound problems

Hello,

I installed the latest drivers three times (one's from the copmpanies website and twice from the CD). The sounds card is integrated with my motherboard. C-Media AC97. I am 100% sure I have it plugged into the right spot, but to make sure I do, I plugged it into each of the spots and restarted. Still...no sound. Nothing that I know of left to try. My diveice manager says the sound device is working fine, even calls it by it's correct name. All my volumes (windows, speaker and sytem) are fine.

Maybe my sperakers are too old (4 years) and are not compatible with my sound card, but I doubt that's even possible! Thanks for your help!

Thanks,
Zach

Have you tested the speakers on another system?

Thanks for your reply Scott. And yes, I have been running the speakers on my older computer for 4 years. They worked, and the same day I got my new computer, they don't work.

What OS are you running? Maybe the onboard sound is disabled in BIOS?

Thanks again, just checked BIOS, the sound card is enabled. hehe, i'm still use to having a crappy BIOS, not one so good that it tells my the temp of my system and CPU, and will turn off when over heating, purely amazing.

Anyways, back on topic, i'm running windows XP professional. I went through the whole troubleshooting act for my sound card, nothing accomplished. This is so strange and frustrating.

Thanks for your help so far scott.

Think I just found out what's wrong, AC97 aduio is not supported by windows XP! That's nuts, the mobo is bran new...argh! I guess i'll have to install a PCI sound card and disable the mobo one. Thanks scott.

Glad I could be of some, if any, help. It is really frustrating troubleshooting sound issues. Every system I have loaded WinXP onto with onboard sound has worked without loading 3rd party drivers. You could do a re-format and reload XP from scratch but there should be an easier answer out there. Win XP SP1 may be a long shot here, but I might try that, also.

AC97 is fully supported by XP - where did you get the information it wasn't?

The drivers installed correctly and therefore must be enabled in bios.

Have you got a pair of headphones? Plug them in the green speaker outlet and try again.

Do your speakers have a separate power cable? If not, that is the problem. Older sound cards could power the speakers, the new ones do not.
